Annual Business Roadmap
What is it?
An Annual Business Roadmap is like a yearly game plan for your company that helps everyone stay focused, work together, and make smarter decisions to reach their goals and succeed.
Have more questions? Read below.
Why create one?
The answer is simple:
80-90% of companies that create and follow an Annual Business Roadmap are more likely to achieve their goals.
Only about 30-40% of companies without an Annual Business Roadmap consistently meet their goals.

How will it help?
If you’re tired of your business not growing or achieving your goals or you feel lost and want to get your business organized, then it’s time to create an Annual Business Roadmap. A roadmap is different from a Strategic Plan in that it’s more concise and tactical. I get rid of the fluff and only focus on the Goals, KPI’s, Actions and Timeline. My approach is granular. There is no guessing. We will answer the “How” by outlining each and every step needed to achieve the desired outcome. The result is a living, breathing, working document that we will use to monitor the success of your business and keep it on track throughout the year.
I’ve worked for, consulted with and advised companies that do and do not create an Annual Business Roadmap and the answer is clear:
What’s Included?
Goals
This is the biggest conversation we will have. We talk about what you want to achieve and when you want to achieve it. We talk about the budget and if you will achieve your goals organically or if you need capital. Most importantly we narrow down the goals to be the few that will actually move the organization forward by prioritizing clear and achievable objectives.
KPIs
KPIs are used to measure the progress towards achieving a goal. We list which KPIs will be used for monitoring so that we can effectively measure progress towards the desired goals. This too is about focus. Utilizing only the data we need.
Actions
Actions are the steps we take to affect the measurement of the KPI in the desired way. Actions also need to be measurable so that we can determine if the selected action created a positive or negative effect. The challenge is to control the exponential creation of KPIs and Actions per Goal. More is not always better in this scenario. Quality is key.
Timeline
This summarizes everything above into a timeline for the year. Our focus will be on priority and scheduled rollout of Goals, KPIs and Actions, especially if they are dependent on one another. Again, selecting fewer Goals that have a big impact, that are clear and achievable is the job.

What’s The Process?
Here’s how it works
Book a time with me on my calendar. We will discuss your business, some high level goals you are wanting to achieve and if interested, talk about next steps.
Start thinking about the goals you would like to achieve. To prepare for the call, make a list of all the goals you would like to achieve. You want to be as specific as possible. This can be anything from increasing revenue 20%, creating new products, building new business units or taking your business in a new direction.
After you have some goals picked out, start thinking of the tasks that we would need to complete to reach those goals. For example, if we want to increase revenue by 20% from last year, what are we going to do differently this year? The solution can’t be “work harder.” It has to be distinctly different like, “We will be increasing social media posting by X Reels and X Posts per day on Instagram. Two Posts per week on Pinterest. Two Email Blasts per month and Two Blog Posts per month.” etc.
Look at your Budget. This may seem backwards, but now that you have thought about your goals, we have to plan for how to pay for it. We may need new sales to pay for some of the goals you would like to achieve. In that case, we prioritize some goals instead of others in Q1 and save other goals for Q2 when we have more revenue. The Goals help us define the budget and the budget helps us plan.
Build out the Annual Business Roadmap. From all of the information above, we put together a roadmap for how to achieve your business goals. This is a great tool, because it literally breaks out the Goals, KPI’s (what we will measure) and Actions (tasks) that it will take to reach your goals and then we break it down by quarter so we know which time of the year those goals will be achieved.
