We have implemented simple central project management systems for businesses where all projects and tasks are followed.  It literally changes their business.  Employee’s are notified when tasks are updated and completed, projects get completed faster and productivity increases.  Oh, and the green component, you can reduce paper consumption by 50% or more!  This will be noticed immediately as less paper will be purchased from Staples.

The way businesses are operating is changing.  Everyone is asking questions like, how do we reduce costs and increase profit while at the same time create a sustainable business model?  In the USA, we have a service and information based economy.  By and large, our assets include our employees.  Keeping them productive, happy and motivated is a daily challenge.  So how do you invigorate the team?  Bring them into the process.  Be transparent.  Share the rewards.

It’s no secret that employees will work harder and take less money for a job they like.  If you get organized and make their job easier to do, you will quickly see a change.  Despite what you may hear, there is nothing better than positive change to bring life into a team.  Done correctly and with consideration, you wil see exponential results.

2008 and 2009 will be remembered partly for when the world discovered the dirty little secret that many organizations were harboring – huge debt, terrible management and excessive spending.  People are upset, lives have been changed and the trust is gone. Employees are going to be very selective where they end up this second time around.  How are we ever going to get great talent to work for our companies again?  Show your employees that you are embracing change.  Show them that you have a business model that will succeed.  Show them that by being employed by your company that they are part of the bigger environmental picture.  They are part of a movement.

Today I am launching, WesChyrchel.com.  This blog is a long time coming where I will be sharing my stories, news, opinions and events on green issues.  I selected Earth Day for the launch of this site, because it is a great celebration of our planet.  To kick off the launch of WesChyrchel.com I took a video of the grand San Diego Earch Day Festival.  It was the 20th anniversary of the event and it truly was the largest event I have ever been to.

Earth Day means a lot of different things to a lot of different people.  I think that’s what I liked best about the San Diego Earth Day Festival.  To some people Earth Day is a very spiritual day of music and dancing, others it is about environmental protection, some used it as a political platform and companies used it as a commercial opportunity.  I think all of that is fine.

The gems of SD Earth Day were found off the beaten path, the hula hoop dancers, the drum circle groups and the Free Speach Tent.  I think I really liked that one.  There was so much to see there, you just couldn’t see it all in one day.  It was truly a spectacular event to pull off.  My hat comes off to the organizers, very well done.  Of course the day of the San Diego Earth Day Festival was one of the hottest days yet this year for San Diego.  Oh the irony!
